**A deep brown she-cat with white paws stalks from the shadows and flicks her tail.** Greetings, my warriors and apprentices. We are low on food for our clan. We need some of you to go forth and bring back some of the scarce feed that still remains among our territory. Be alert for any activity among the other clan's as you progress through your hunt. This is a good opportunity to prove yourselves and bring profit to your clan. **Without another word, the great leader turns back to the shadows and disappears from your sight, though her presense is still felt.**

** A white she-cat, her light fur making her visable even in the shadows, comes out.** ShadowClan! All who can hear me, come forth! We need food for our members- if you can hunt, come to me now!

**Fallenpaw slips from a covingly opaque shadow and lifts her eyes to Snowstars after ducking her head respectfully.** Of course, Snowstar. **Her rich brown coat reflects little of the quickly fading light as she trots towards the edge of camp. Her white paws pad soundlessly across the dusty, dry, beaten ground at a brisk trot.**

** A chuckle eascapes the CLan Leader's mouth.** Wait up, Fallenstar!** She trots after the other cat, her white fur gleaming in the sunlight.**

**Twingepaw crept through the shadows, noting the other cats' presence. Lifting his snout, he opened his mouth to let the air pass over his scent glands. Sensing no danger, he padded out into the open cautiously, careful not to surprise the others. He meowed quietly.** Hellow, Snowstar, Fallenstar. May I join you? **The tabby let his tail twitch expectantly.**

** Snowstar stops.** Ah, my young apprentice, glad you could amke it. Yes, we could always use more hunters. C'mon!** And with that, she takes off again, going into the shadows. SHe is not completely invisible; her white fur can be seen darting from bush to bush in the undergrowth.**

**The gray tabby let the corner of his mouth curve slightly upwards as he followed Snowstar dutifully, keeping his senses alert, as always, for danger- from other Clans and other creatures.**

** The ShadowClan Leader stops suddenly, flicking her tail to show Twingepaw the mouse in the undergrowth. She, however, stands still. She hopes her new apprentice gets the hint.**

**The dark tabby nodded his head slightly to indicate that he caught her drift. Dropping into a hunter's crouch, he crept forward. He was sure to keep light on the ground, knowing the mouse's knack at feeling things in the ground. His ears pricked forward, he heard with satisfaction the mouse's rapid heartbeat. He crouched lower and prepared to spring, his muscles bunching beneath his thin fur. He leapt! Pushing off of the ground with his powerful hind legs, Twingepaw felt the air in his whiskers. The mouse looked up in alarm and tried to scramble away, but too late. Twingepaw was already on top of it, killing it swiftly with a blow from his large paw. The tabby glanced at Snowstar to make sure she was watching, then quickly buried his prey to come back to later. He walked back to Snowstar quietly.**

** Snowstar gave a nod of approval.** Very good, Twingepaw.** She trots away, sniffing for prey scent. Rabbit fills her scent glands as she opens her mouth; one sat near by. Keeping light on her feet and not making a sound, she crouches and stalks. A few tasil lengths away, she pounces. The rabbit tries to get away, but Snowstar was on top og it before it got two paces. She kills it swiftly, smiling satisfactory as she hears the crack of a broken neck. Burying it, she moves on.**

Oh. Sorry, Snowstar. **The lithe she-cat slows her trot to a walk.** And I'm Fallenpaw, Tingepaw. **Chuckles quietly.** I'm not exactly a leader.. But thanks for the thought. **She follows after the two cats and drops her jax slightly to carry in all the invigorating smells of the vast land. Her ears were pricked and swiveled forward, cautiously tuned to the muffled sounds of the afternoon. The sun was setting quickly in the rosey gray sky, and the creatures of the night as well as the prey they sought after, were venturing forth. She watched silently as Tingepaw tackled his prey and carefully analized Snowstar's praticed movements as she dealt death to the hare. She steadied her breath so as to make her hearing more clear as she carefully stalked forward through the shadows and light. Suddenly, her neck fur pricked. Her brown tail twitch with anticipation as she lowered instinctively into a crouch. She sensed something, something near. Then, like a dancing and darting firefly, a small mammal scampered from a clump of damp leaves. It was a mouse, and it stood very still, looking anxiously about it with timidness. Fallenpaw held her breath and lowered her crouch ever more, till her brown belly brushed gently against the dirt. With tensed slowness, she tentatively placed a paw forward and crept closer to the prey. The mouse's scent wafted into her scent glands, its auroma intoxicating her and drawing her into the exciment of the hunt. Every nerve of her being pricked, tensed, and strained, Fallenpaw stalked closer, and, cautiously, ever cautiously, she moved within poucing distance of the tiny morsel. It was a weak target, nothing compared to a nice plump rabbit; but it would suffice if she could manage to capture it. Now she wanted more than anything to succeed in her doings, for it was a great feeling to provide for you clan and have them be pleased. Thinking in thus manner, Fallenpaw shifted her weight slowly from side to side to assure herself of her balance and footing. Then, without a moment's more time of hesitating, she lept from the ground, hind legs propelling her muscular form from the ground. She sprang at the now aware mouse, teeth bared, claws out, ears pressed against her head. The small prey didn't have time to escape as Fallenpaw fell upon it. Her white, unstained paw whacked at the mouse in a fell swoop, finishing off its life. With a last twich of its tail, the mouse went limp and was burried in dirt, silt, and loam.**

** Snowstar nods in approval to Fallenpaw's kill.** That was very good, however trivial it may look, Fallenpaw. Come, we have much more hunting to do.** She heads off into the undergrowth, ducking and weaving her way through the bushes.**

**Fallenpaw ducked her head to hide her embarrassment and meowed softly.** Thank you, Snowstar. Oh, of course. **She lifted her dark head and followed the gleaming white leader. Her amber eyes searched the dim forest keenly, and her ears remained pricked. The tough muscles beneath her medium length, brown fur were tensed with anticipation; and her mouth was still part-way open, inhaling and analizing the various smells and scents that drafted slowly in the hazy woods.**

**Twingepaw watched Fallenpaw and Snowstar make their kills, impressed by their prowress.** I hope I can get to be that good someday... **He flicked his tail and followed his two companions, keeping all his senses alert to the scents and sounds around him. His keen ears picked up on the noise of birdsong, and he noted a bluebird sitting on a low tree branch. The tabby apprentice lowered himself into a crouch, and started to creep forward. Opening his mouth one more time, he let the scents around him wash over his glands. Sensing no danger, he moved on, reaching the ground almost directly below the branch. Tensing his muscles, he prepared to spring. Suddenly, however, the bird was alerted to his presence, and opened its wings in a flurry of feathers.** No! **The dismayed apprentice let out a short meow then leapt, but too late. His prey had escaped. Having landed on the branch, he frowned disappointedly and clambered down, flicking his striped tail in annoyance.**

**Fallenpaw swiveled around at the distressed sound of Tingepaw's cry.** Wha-? **She relaxed slightly as she saw the blue bird ascend further in the branches of the trees and Twingepaw leaping in the air after it. She sighed, but stayed alert.** Tough luck, Twingepaw. Perhaps next time.
